Join us for “Awakening of the Ancestors”, an interactive, participatory live music program presented by Psalmist Christal Heyward that will introduce you to the sacred music of the Gullah Geechee people of the South Carolina lowcountry.  Learn about the different musical styles found in this repertoire, how canonical songs were interpreted by the singers, and how some hymns became associated with important events and rituals in the community.  Presented in partnership by the Charleston County Public Library, the International African American Museum and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission.
